If you ask my daughter, “Who is Angel?” She will quickly say, “Grandma Cow.” Angel is special to Black Walnut Farm for many reasons and one is she is currently our oldest cow. Angel was born 11 years ago, while my grandfather was still alive and I purchased Angel from my grandfather. Her bloodline is especially special to my family since my great-grandmother selected the bloodline when the farm was originally purchased.
When Angel was 6 months old, I moved her to a pasture with my horses to wean. During this time, she was gentled and treated a lot like a horse. Due to this now Angel is very patient, gentle, and great herd boss for our other cattle.
Through the years Angel has built our herd of cows one heifer calf at a time. She loves to be brushed and given treats from the garden. Our grandma cow, Angel is a special member of Black Walnut Farm.
